MATT WHITSON

Matt Whitson has been telling Alabama’s stories for over two decades. After studying music performance and recording at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, he began working as a sound mixer for television and film before finding a home in the Documentary Division of Alabama Public Television in 2004. During his tenure at APT, Matt worked on numerous documentaries and series which received Southeast Regional Emmy Awards, Oscar nominations, national Public Media Awards, and Telly Awards. Matt co-created APT’s acclaimed music performance shows We Have Signal: Live from Birmingham, and Subcarrier, and was a Producer for the APT arts series Monograph. Matt lives in Irondale with his dog and spends his free time working to foster a welcoming and vibrant music community in Birmingham.
